The main Difference between Outlook and Hotmail is that Outlook is a modern version, which can perform as a domain name like a desktop email client, but Hotmail has just one domain name, which is lead by Microsoft Corporation. But, it is not a big difference between Outlook and Hotmail because they are the same, only that Outlook have newer applications and features.
Another difference between Outlook and Hotmail is that Outlook was Microsoft Corp’s original email client service, but Hotmail is just a domain name which was founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith and then acquired by Microsoft Corporation. As you see, there is no a great difference between one and other because Outlook is a better version of Hotmail.
The days of MSN Hotmail: a retrospective
Its most popular services are its electronic mail, currently known as Windows Live Hotmail, and the instant messaging service MSN Messenger, currently, Windows Live Messenger. The popularity of MSN is so great, that it has reached the sixth position of the most visited sites on the Internet in the world. In 1998, the company moved the web portal to the name MSN.com.
MSN allows a very complete way of communication with other people around the world. Not only can you send text messages, which can be modified with different colors and fonts, but also icons, sounds, images, hums and animations.
Apart from its dial-up service, Microsoft used the name MSN for many products and services during many years like Hotmail, Messenger, its web search engine known as Bing, and many other discontinued services and apps. In 2014, the current website was introduced by Microsoft Corporation as a very important part of a deep redesign and relaunch. MSN Hotmail is based on international versions of its portals around the world.
Microsoft Internet Start
In 1995, Microsoft used the MSN.com domain to promote MSN as a free online service and service provider. At the same time, MSN offered a custom start webpage and an Internet tutorial, but the major website was named Microsoft Internet Start, which is located at home.microsoft.com.
Internet Start was also considered as the default home page for the web browser Internet Explorer and offered some information like sports, news, entertainment, articles written by Microsoft staff, and so on. In 1996, Microsoft launched its original news website, msnbc.com, which was tied to the Internet Start web portal.
By 1999, the MSN.com brand name became combined with Microsoft Internet Start and created as both a website and a brand for many sites produced by Microsoft. This website put MSN in competition with Yahoo, Go Network, and some other important email sites. The new format allowed users to access to content for free and the Internet service provider and subscription service obtained the name MSN Internet Access.
The MSN.com brand contained a lot of sites, which include original content, channels, and new added features. MSN.com also took the place of the default Internet Explorer start page like the previous ‘Microsoft Internet Start’ websites, which was combined with MSN.COM. Some of the original webpages launched by Microsoft Corporation are active in some form yet. Microsoft Investor is now MSN Money, CarPoint is now MSN Autos, and the Internet Gaming Zone is now MSN Games.
In 2012, MSN announced a new version of MSN.com home page on October, but just for Windows 8, stating that this version will be “clean, simple, and built for touch“. The company said that it would be more app-like thanks to speed of Internet Explorer 10. Some new features allowed users to swipe from one article to the next. In addition to that, Messenger for Windows 8 had new connections with the AP and Reuters.
Renaming some services
In 2005, some of MSN´s services were relaunched with a new brand name, which was championed by Microsoft at that time and was known as Windows Live. This launch was part of a strategy to improve Microsoft´s online offerings with the use of the Windows brand name. Microsoft Corporation also overhauled its online software and features thanks to increasing competition from other email services like Yahoo! and Google. Windows Live services used Web 2.0 technology to offer many services and good functionality.
Many MSN services were affected by the rebranding name like MSN Hotmail, which became Windows Live Hotmail; MSN Messenger is now Windows Live Messenger, MSN Search is now Live Search, MSN Virtual Earth is now Live Search Maps, MSN Spaces is now Windows Live Spaces, MSN Alerts is now Windows Live Alerts, and MSN Groups is now Windows Live Groups. Other services like MSN Direct are an important part of MSN family without any transition to Windows Live.
Continuing with the launch of Windows Live, MSN changed its focus. It became a free online content provider of entertainment, news, and many varied topics in the web portal MSN.com, meanwhile, Windows Live offers most of online software and services. By 2012, Microsoft Corporation began to progressively eliminate the Windows Live brand name, making reference to each service by its individual brand without the ¨Windows¨ prefix.
The most new redesign
In 2014, a new rewritten and redesign MSN site was launched by Microsoft Corporation, using the modern design language, which belonged to the company. The new MSN website created a new version of the logo that has a similar style to other Microsoft porducts.
